FIRST LET'S START WITH THE COMMON QUESTION...
WHAT IS ELECTRIC MUSCLE STIMULATION?
Electrical Muscle Stimulation, or EMS, uses electrical impulses to cause muscles to contract, which in turn helps your muscles become stronger. Your muscles naturally contract in response to electrical signals sent from your brain. PowerDot replicates this by sending electronic pulses to your motor nerves to promote muscle contraction. Our electric muscle stimulator promotes many more muscle fibers to contract than possible during a traditional workout.
PowerDot engages Type 1 slow-twitch muscles fibers and Type 2 fast-twitch muscle fibers, sending electrical pulses every two to three seconds. Slow-twitch, or red muscle fibers, contract more slowly, and are responsible for supporting strength and endurance. These muscle fibers tire slowly under medium strain. Fast-twitch, or white muscle fibers, contract quickly. These muscle fibers require a lot of energy and tire quickly as well.
Because EMS circumvents the Central Nervous System, it is capable of overcoming neural inhibitions that limit strength and power development and muscle growth. As a result, electric muscle stimulation promotes fitness performance, explosiveness, strength and strength endurance building, and recovery.
Many of the world’s top athletes use electrical muscle stimulation to enhance their training programs. Now, PowerDot Smart Muscle Stimulation brings EMS benefits to many more people--from trainers and fitness enthusiasts to weekend warriors, older people and those with physical ailments. When used properly, PowerDot smart EMS technology can help accelerate your fitness performance, build strength and endurance and recover faster and more fully. PowerDot gives you the same electronic muscle stimulation technology found in doctors’ and physical therapists’ offices, but through your smart device paired with our elegant and intuitive mobile app.

INCREASING PERFORMANCE WITH EMS:
Electrical muscle stimulation, or EMS, devices are not meant to promote performance and improve aesthetics while you sit on the couch. Though some devices wrongly claim to do this, electric muscle stimulators are meant to be paired with your training routines and workout programs to enhance performance and support recovery in between workouts or post workout.
Electrical muscle stimulation, when correctly integrated into your workout routine, is designed to support you in your fitness journey at all stages and at any fitness level. Electric muscle stimulation uses different Hertz ranges to activate specific muscle fibers, forcing them to contract. Specific Hertz ranges will force different muscle fiber types to contract. For example, if you want to increase the type of muscle fiber responsible for explosive movement, you would want to use a 100 to 120 Hertz range. Low frequencies up to 18 Hz activate slow-twitch muscle fibers, whereas much higher frequencies activate fast-twitch muscles.
Why do you need to increase the number of muscle fibers that contract? Simply put, so you can jump higher, lift more, run longer and recover faster. Even elite athletes can only activate about 35% of their muscle fibers. This is for a variety of reasons such as muscle guarding due to a previous injury, neural inhibition or disease. Electrical muscle stimulation pulses throughout the central nervous system and activates muscle fibers at the motor neuron level.
This means that EMS can activate up to 100% of an individual’s muscle fibers of a particular type. And because that muscle has memory, the next time the brain asks that muscle fiber to contract, it will.
WHAT IS POWERDOT SMART MUSCLE STIMULATION?
PowerDot is an electrical muscle stimulator used by everyone from some of the world’s top athletes, to frequent business travelers, to busy moms. PowerDot has taken the proven concept of neuromusclar electric stimulation (NMES) and packed it into a small lightweight pod, completely controlled by an app on your mobile device. This allows you to gain access to 10+ NMES programs from virtually anywhere in the world. The app walks you through every step of the process, from pad placement, to program selection, to workout duration. We have removed the guessing game and any confusion from traditional NMES using smart technology.
PowerDot’s everyday training programs are the perfect place to start your fitness journey using electrical muscle stimulation. Our EMS technology is designed to assist in the essential rest and recovery required during and in between workouts to develop full payoff from the previous training session.
EVERYDAY TRAINING PROGRAMS INCLUDE:
Warm Up/Potentiation | Increases muscle contraction speed and prepares muscles for maximum output
Active Recovery | Reduces blood lactate accumulation and speeds up muscle recovery after a hard training session
Extended Recovery | An extended version of the Active Recovery program that runs longer for optimal recovery
Massage | Temporarily increases blood circulation in the applied area, and promotes muscle relaxation
As your muscles begin to develop a foundation of familiarity with electric muscle stimulation through our everyday training programs, your level of EMS training background increases. Our performance programs help you take the next step from beginner to intermediate EMS user.
PERFORMANCE TRAINING PROGRAMS INCLUDE:
Muscle Endurance | Improves muscle endurance and resistance to fatigue; assists in improving muscles’ ability to increase the rate of lactic acid removal
Strength Endurance | Improves muscles’ ability to resist intense and prolonged effort, improving muscle tone and definition; assists in ability to sustain higher intensities of exercise for short periods of time
Strength | Improves muscle strength with a major focus on pushing, pressing and pulling training
Explosive Strength | Focuses on rapid muscle strength development and overcoming plateaus in your strength or speed training
